Where the bloody hell is Roy?

Ok, Roy missed a team meeting in August to go on a pre-booked fishing charter.

Officials say Symonds’ apparent disregard for team commitments is the latest in a worrying trend that indicates he is mentally struggling to cope with the demands of being a high-profile sportsman.

Ok, it’s not like a few beers on tour is anything new, Doug Walters for the defence. He was punished at the time, this fishing trip didn’t involve the drink, and really there’s no reason to bring up the events of 2005.

“struggling to cope with the demands of being a high-profile sportsman” ? Sounds like he needs some sort of relaxing activity to take his mind off all the stress of Cricket… an activity that he enjoys and helps him relax and forget the pressure. Fishing sounds just about ideal.

Now Roy’s punishment for this most grevious indiscretion of missing a team meeting in August reads as follows:

  • sent home from top end tour
  • dragged through the press
  • mandatory counselling
  • thrown off the Indian tour
  • sent back to Queensland CLUB CRICKET!Roy’s take on the situation
“I’m going through the process of trying to improve and become not only a better cricketer but a better person,” Symonds said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of taking up playing cricket again for my club, state and country, hopefully.”

Well, if that doesn’t work out for Roy then hopefully sales of his new fishing lure will soften the blow.

a Darwin fishing charter company has produced a new barramundi lure called ‘The Roy’.

It is green and gold, with a black tip to represent Symonds’ dreadlocks and a slash of white in reference to his trademark zinc cream.

Alas, The Roy lure is a limited edition, however they are considering releasing it to market. If anyone finds them for sale please let me know!

    1. Poor old Roy if anyone has done his head in it’s the administrators of the Australian cricket team.

I just watched him get out for a duck against my boys and it was the softest dismissal imaginable.

He just lobbed the ball to mid-on off Xavier Doherty. The ball didn’t turn at all. Usually he’d back himself and belt a ball like that over mid-on and into the stands.

Sad and I blame the conservative corporate coatholders! The same pricks who demand that security pour out kids drink bottles before they enter the ground.

    2. Is there some tiff going on between roy and micheal clarke. thats what i heard sometime , about some bar fight that they got into.

internal politics withing a cricket team is not unheard of, but in an aussie set up i presume its pretty rare?

    3. I suspect JRod might have started a rumour to that effect ;)

Clarke fresh from a 2 day management course made some strange comments around the time of the infamous fishing trip

“I guess the main concern for us is Andrew’s commitment to playing for this team,” Clarke said. “In my opinion you need to be committed 100 per cent.

“Everybody knows their responsibilities. And that’s to make sure you are fit, healthy and ready to play.

“We believe as a leadership group and a team that he’s not fulfilling commitments 100 per cent and right now he needs some time away from the game (and to) get his head right.”

Michael Clarke says the Queenslander’s commitment isn’t up to the standard of a professional Australian cricketer.

“It’s so hard to play for this team,” he said.

“In my opinion we are the greatest sporting team in the world, so we have standards, and they might be higher than other teams but if you don’t fulfil those standards unfortunately you’re not going to be part of our squad.”

    4. Roy and Pup in a scrap! That’s funny. Roy would only have to growl at Pup and he’d be begging for mercy before he drew breath.

    5. Hi,
sorry this is not the appropriate place for this.

Just to say, thanks for joining the webring, I have activated the link.

The two mails – confirming registration and the welcome from me, were both ‘failed to deliver’ bounce backs. The email address you have given is not being recognised.

I apologise again for butting into a sports conversation.

    6. mosses> doesnt Jrods post link to an article on the the australian about that very bar fight?

is that just a rumor or is there some truth to that ?
