Jrod, Miss-Field and myself have started a new blog on Australian Domestic Cricket.
It’ll cover all the big issues such as why New South Wales has won the Sheffield Shield 45 times of the 106 occasions that it’s been contested.
Currently the content is very Victorian and New South Wales biased so we’re looking for more authors from Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland. Ideally we’ll have all states represented equally regardless of how small they are by population. Just like the Senate.
So head on over to http://www.statecricket.com/ for all your Aussie domestic blogging needs.
Why do the Blues win anything? Because in all sports everything is skewed in their favour always dammit!!!!!!
Actually, the bulk of the NSW wins are in either (a) the late 19th/early 20th century, or (b) a St George-like period of dominance from 53-53 to 60-61.
For epoch (a) NSW would easily have had more players and more infrastructure (social and economic) given its age and development compared to the other states/colonies. This would have given it a larger population of sports people to draw on. This is seemingly backed up by the fact that Victoria, with a smattering of SA wins, comprises the bulk of the rest of them. It wasn’t until the late 60s that other teams began to consistently win.
As for (b) I would have to look at the (state) players of the era. Could be interesting…
Look forward to reading the new blog.
Obviously this is going to be the greatest cricket blog ever
Congratulations on the scoop.
WA is no longer part of Australian cricket! (The way we’re going I can understand that. Do think we could get a game against Zim?)
