Laws of Backyard Cricket

October 9th, 2007 by Moses Leave a reply »

Here’s another parody I wrote in 2004 while backpacking around Europe. It’s received over 50,000 hits, was featured on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald (Column 8.. but still front page!), and I received hundreds of emails.

I was also called by 2BL 702’s cricket coverage and interviewed by Jim Maxwell in the leadup to a test at Belreive, from a backpackers pub in Austria. Dad has the interview on tape ;)

While many of the rules are based off an email that went around, I made a few changes, added in a few rules, and added the rule numbering in the style of the MCC Laws.

The photo with this story is of us playing Backyard Cricket at Christmas a few years ago. My fiancé bowling to Bennos, and his (now) wife Jen is fielding at silly mid-off. Click the photo for full size.

    That’s legend.

Amazing how we’ve all played to the same rules all these years.

I never realised you were a celeb to boot.
