BaggyGreens release hideous new strip

“Well if they can’t wear socks with sandals, how bout a skivvy with a singlet?” came the inspired call from some bright spark at Cricket Australia. And so was born the Australian Twenty20 strip. Perhaps they should have slept on it.

But what is a crappy new uniform without some catchy marketing terms? I mean who in their right mind would fork out 100 bucks for something that Alf Stewart wouldn’t use to put out his flaming galah without a few hi-tech buzz words?

Fortunately the boffins at Adidas have come up with “TechFit Compression” which is engineered to “reduce muscle vibration and oscillation”, thus ensuring that the garments “Powerweb” can best utilise it’s “Thermoplastic Urethane” or “TPU” to those in the know.

Of cource you could have more TPU than you could poke a “moisture wicking” stick at, but unless you’ve remembered the “ClimaCool® technology” with it’s “Formotion™ design” you might drop the Flux Capacitor.

Still not convinced? Perhaps a three pronged sales approach from the Captain, Coach and Adidas themselves will help get it added to the aussie tackers’ Christmas list.

“With the game of Twenty20 being about power and speed, we are thrilled to be able to create a uniform that will deliver a performance advantage to the players on the field.” – Ricky Ponting
“The ICC World Twenty20 Tournament will involve fast games with short recovery periods. This new uniform has been specifically designed with the player’s comfort and performance in mind.” “The ICC World Twenty20 Tournament is an exciting and new frontier for the Australian Team. It’s fantastic that adidas and Cricket Australia have taken the initiative to develop a highly innovative uniform that will deliver the team a competitive edge on the field.” – Tim Nielsen, Australian Coach
“Whilst the most obvious difference to the new uniform is that it’s sleeveless, the key innovation behind its design is the incorporation of adidas TechFit compression technology in the under layer,” “With the game of Twenty20 being about power and speed, we are thrilled to be able to create a uniform that will deliver a performance advantage to the players on the field.” – adidas Australia Managing Director Kevin Roberts

Makes one wonder how a bowler ever managed to get through 4 overs in the old days.

They are brutal, aren’t they, Andrew? Must have been the same people who did the sports bra-come-tour de France look for the Wallaby jumpers.
