After winning an Ashes Test Match at Lords for the first time in 75 years earlier this week, England will go into the 3rd Test Match at Edgbaston with a real sense of belief that they can take firm control of the series. England’s victory at Lord’s gave them a 1-0 lead in the series and represented a remarkable turnaround for the hosts, after they had managed to escape with a draw in the First Test Match in Cardiff despite the fact that Australia had dominated the majority of the game. England were dealt something of a blow earlier this week however when it was announced that their star batsman Kevin Pietersen is to miss the rest of the series due to an Achilles injury which he sustained earlier in the year. Pietersen is renowned for being one of the most dangerous batsmen in world Cricket and he will certainly be missed by England as they attempt to regain the Ashes. However England’s skipper Andrew Strauss has been in a rich vein of form in 2009 and his 161 at Lord’s gave his team a much needed platform to set up the convincing victory and Strauss will be looking to lead from the front on a similar fashion at Edgbaston and for the remainder of the series.

I don’t have a problem with Strauss, probably would have claimed it myself.

However, they do have video replays when the umpire is not 100% sure of a catch… as was the case with this very umpire the previous day. In that case he had a closer and more direct view of Hauritz “catching” Bopara. This incident looked more “caught” on the replay, yet was overturned upon referral. I have no doubt had Rudi referred the Strauss effort it would also have been overturned. And Hughes would likely have been out the next over regardless, this was his second edge to slip in 6 balls.

I don’t think Strauss cheated. when you take a catch like that you are not 100% certain you took it cleanly, if they had video replays the issue would not arise!
